Storage tanks and piping

Storage tanks and piping are vessels containing pressure and/or polluting and hazardous materials. Improper welding may cause an explosion or leak and subsequently a fire, extensive contamination, loss of material and danger to life.

Welds are the weak point of piping and tanks and a source of defects during the welding process or cracks developing over time.

Those welds undergo various tests, such as X-rays (Radiography), Ultrasonic tests, Magnetic particle tests, Liquid penetration tests and others, to detect defects that are hidden but nevertheless prohibited under standards. The type of test and quantity to be tested depend on the standard / code or the customer’s requirement and of course on the inherented relative risk.
